| The institution |
The work of La Casita and Encarando, social projects at the YMCA of San José, focuses on giving educational-recreational support for children and teens living in critical socio-economic suburban neighborhoods. The center has a kids club called La Casita with morning and afternoon shifts, and in the evening it is home to the Encarando Youth Center . The two projects are attended by 114 children and adolescents who eat breakfast or snacks and are supported by a team of professionals to achieve better social integration.
This institution began its work in 1999 and is now a clear reference-point for the formal study centers in its radius of influence, health centers and other organizations. Each child attending the YMCA in San José receives a support plan that includes personalized educational, social and health services. The family participates in the definition and implementation of this plan, and the work is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of highly committed professionals. |

| The project |
| In 2011 Reaching U is funding the construction of a multi-purpose classroom, which will expand the offer of proposed workshops and tutoring. Currently, the workshops are offered are school tutoring, music, expression through dance and movement, nutrition, organic gardening, hygiene and body care, prevention of abuse and sexual abuse, parent workshops, life planning, vocational guidance and information, among others. This area will give room to work more comfortably and properly, without groups and tasks interfering or overlapping. |

2010: purchase of a refrigerator, a stove, a computer, a projector and other materials. Thanks to new equipment the center is able provide better presentations, classes and workshops for youth and their families.
