When our organization was formed in 2001, there were a number of charitable Uruguayan organizations in several US cities. We decided to target Uruguayans living all across the United States. This is why from the beginning we have made great efforts to develop the necessary infrastructure.
In 2002, we held our first event, an auction of art and handicrafts in New York. We also launched our website, which has become a valuable tool for communicating with all our members and collaborators. We began to form work groups in various cities.
In 2003, our foundation was granted the status of “non-profit organization” under IRS Rule 501c3. From then on, all donations to Reaching U became tax-deductible in states where we have the biggest presence.
Today, Reaching U is in contact with 2,000 people across the US via mail campaigns, its website and events. Four groups of volunteers located in New York, Miami, Washington DC, and Montevideo, work very hard to raise funds for our organization.
